Executive Director: Mike

Saved at an early age
with a clear calling to serve God, I
spent the first twenty years as a less
than dedicated Christian. God, always
faithful, used that time to mold and
shape me with a wide variety of skills
and experience. A wartime veteran (U.S.
Navy) 1970-1975, U. S. Forest Service
1975-1981 and a career in environmental
management and engineering 1982-1993 are
just a few of the opportunities God has
blessed me with. Since1985 I have served
on several Christian Boards with both
evangelistic and educational ministries.
I have been in full time ministry for
the last 15 years serving first with
CityTeam Ministries and now as the
Executive Director of Teen Challenge
Monterey Bay. I have been happily
married for 36 years and have 3 children
and 3 grandchildren.

I came into the program
as a student in February of 1998. I
could list numerous items of why I came
into the program, but they all add up to
the sin in my life. I came to know Jesus
Christ as my personal Savior during my
stay as a student. The Lord also led me
to stay on as a servant to Him, in the
capacity of a staff member, as I
continue to do His will and not my own.
I personally thank all of you who
continue to support our ministry and
students. God bless you all.

I was saved on May 25,
2003. God delivered me from addictions
and habits that the world deems as
disease, genetically inheritable and
incurable. In essence, they were right,
only they have misdiagnosed the root of
the problem. The problem was not the
substance or the addiction, it was sin.
Now because of the Grace, Mercy and Love
of the almighty Lord, I am a dead man
walking and changing everyday! God has
called me and my life partner (Vivien)
out of Calvary Chapel Santa Barbara and into the urban
missions field of Teen Challenge
Monterey Bay & Calvary Chapel
Watsonville. He is doing a wondrous
work and I am stoked to be here on the
front lines, witnessing Gods provision &
daily miracles.

I
was born and raised in a loving Catholic
family in Tondo, Manila. I spent half
of my life in the Philippines and half
in Los Angeles. I received my master’s
degree in Counseling Psychology from
Mount St. Mary’s College in LA. I have
worked with adults with mental illness
and dual diagnosis, as well as with
children with multiple disabilities. God
led me to Santa Barbara where I met my
husband, Geno, in 2004. I am very
blessed to serve with Geno in full-time
ministry at Teen Challenge and witness
the Lord’s faithfulness, goodness,
miraculous healing, and transforming
power.

I was raised in church as a child,
however, my perception of God’s goodness
and forgiveness was overshadowed by my
family’s addictions. I was depressed
and had health problems at an early age,
which followed me into adulthood. As
soon as I turned 18 I left home, praying
I would escape the darkness and my life
would miraculously change!! When this
didn’t happen, I began wandering around
aimlessly without purpose. My life
rapidly went downhill; I finally hit a
brick wall and got down on my knees and
asked God to deliver me. The Lord was
with me all along. I had left him but
He was always with me. “Come near to
God and He will come near to you”. James
4:8. My childhood experience with
Jesus is what saved me after all. For
the first time in my life I felt there
was hope. God truly did perform a
miracle in my life!
I have been a volunteer for TCMB for 3
years" and have recently
been blessed with an opportunity of
being on staff and ministering to the
women at Freedom Women’s Center. It is
so exciting to see what God is doing in
their lives and how amazing his
transforming power can be!!

I was born in Kentucky,
but was raised a "Valley Girl" -
Sacramento Valley, that is. I was born
again through camping ministry in Jr.
High. At High School age I had my first
experience volunteering at a rescue
mission putting on Gospel services for
the needy. This led, years later, to
full time work with several California
Rescue Missions, the last being Pajaro
Rescue Mission where my husband and I
have served for over 21 years. Under the
Lord's direction, I now serve full time
with the Freedom Women's Center as
Chaplain, Educational Coordinator and
teacher. My cup runneth over!

Lord in 1998 in Rocklin, CA @ Crossroads
Church. I am a graduate of Teen

2002. I stayed on to give back what I
was given. To give others the second
chance I was given. God gave me a heart
for the youth and ex-gang members which
I still have the honor and privilege of
serving today. My home church is
currently Grace Temple A.G. located in
Freedom Ca. It is there, that I get to
serve the youth ministry and serve in
the Celebrate Recovery ministry.

In 1996 I
asked Jesus to become my Lord and Savior.
In addition, I gave Him Lordship over my
life. Since that time, my walk with the
Lord has been a marathon run. The Lord met
me right where I was. He showed me I was
precious and a child of His. The events and
circumstances in our lives are for a purpose
– His purpose. It has been my experience
that people who use drugs and alcohol are
numbing the pain and attempting to escape
their feelings. Jesus Christ has given me
hope and healed me. He has shown me how to
share the freedom that is in Christ with
others – and called me here to the Freedom
Women's Center for that purpose.

When I was a young boy, I was born with
Cerebral Palsy. I wore leg braces on my legs
and I was in a wheelchair. I began using
drugs very early in life. After much
disappointment and failure in my life, i
knew I needed change. I gave my heart to the
Lord on Aug 15, 2000. My pastor told me
about Teen Challenge. I turned down 3
programs that would of taken me, but I
wanted to go to Teen Challenge, because I
believe that's where God wanted me to go.
God has not only healed me, but through His
grace and mercy, I am now talking with my
folks again. I have a closer relationship
with my 2 brothers. I am now singing on the
Teen Challenge Worship Team. God has done so
much healing in my life. He has healed my
back problem & from disease. I owe my life
to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I came to teen
challenge in January 4, 2004 as a
student, since that time I’ve come to
experience and learn what a relationship
with Jesus Christ. Can be all about, and
what a feeling it is to be forgiven for
all the shortcomings of my past! Now the
lord has called me to walk next to men
who are experiencing those same
shortcomings and give them hope. I’m
here at Teen challenge of Monterey Bay
until the Lord directs me elsewhere. Joel Luna - 12/20/1963 - PSALM 116:1
